Melissa Andrzejewski Pemberton was born on June 22, 1984 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was a master rock climber throughout her high school years and even won several prestigious competitions. Not one to shy away from a challenge, Melissa even played soccer on a men’s team and started the first varsity soccer team for women at her school.
Melissa’s love for flying was sparked by her grandmother who took her for a flight in a Cessna 150 Aerobat airplane. Melissa eventually began training under the tutelage of Sergei Boriak and went on to place third at the 2004 U.S. National Championships for aerobatics. After being chosen for the honorable “Starts of Tomorrow” program in 2005, Melissa went on to become the youngest female to ever join the U.S. Unlimited Aerobatic Team in 2006.
Daring tricks and spectacular maneuvers are used in Melissa’s aerobatics shows to create a thrilling experience for captive audiences. Streams of smoke are emitted from her airplane as she flies across the sky to create a stunning visual effect. A second airplane is included in the show to provide even more thrills. Melissa uses an Edge 540 airplane to perform her shows. This cutting-edge airplane features an attractive blue exterior decorated with special designs resembling flames. The airplane also includes a three-blade Hartzell propeller and a total wingspan of 24.4 feet.
